    A Bad Guess

I like this a lot. (I might tweak the drums in the intro, but I'm starting to like that more, so don't listen to me.) I'm curious whether the vocals are real. If so, you or whoever that is are a really good singer.

    Method Songwriting

Speaking for myself (and I assume a few others), I'm way more pop than orchestral. (Embarrassing admission - When we were getting ready to record Sunset Strings and the guys said the main articulation should be "sul tasto", I didn't know what that was. Same for "ricochets" and a number of...

Sonarworks SoundID VoiceAI - First attempt!

Wow, that surprises me, although listening back, I may have been a little harsh, since D doesn't sound bad at all. (I, along with most peopole with decent hearing, would prefer your singing over mine. ;) ) I just figured it was one of the derivatives because it seemed to have less...

Sonarworks SoundID VoiceAI - First attempt!

I think a casual listener would not be able to tell, and even in my own case, they're all "believable." But ... they're not all good, and I think that's the tell. Hopefully I'm not about to offend, but I would reject C, D and E as not great interpretations of the song. (I'd be telling the...

    Method Songwriting

What comes to mind for me with "kissing" is the Katy Perry song, where the first line in chorus, "I kissed a girl and I liked it", is certainly provocative. But it's the second line - "The taste of her cherry Chapstick" - that makes it real for the listener.

    Songs by Month

Acchhh! We need to be more careful about who we allow on the forum, starting with a requirement that members be able to read! In my defense, I did understand what this thread was about ... when it started. But as you proabably guessed, I forgot (even with the title serving as a...

    Songs by Month

I have a "21 Pilots" playlist on Pandora, which plays a bunch of alt rock stuff, but also injects some adjacent things. A lot of Chris Stapleton, for instance, which I assume is because on other playlists (Zappa, 70s Soul, whatever), I must have clicked the Like button when his songs randomly...

    Method Songwriting

This is really good. Thanks for posting it. The one that sticks out most for me is about imagery. (Part 2, #2.) Even in normal writing, I try to use specific images rather than a generalization, since it makes things more real in the reader's/listener's head. For instance, "I even had to...

    Hope everyone's busy writing songs!

Guilty here of not posting much, and worse, not writing any songs, either. (Mind you, some would say that me not writing songs is doing listeners a favor! ;)) Here's hoping after NAMM I'll be ready to join back in on the conversation ... and torture a few ears.

Do You Think There Should be Rules for How Much AI Should be Allowed in Songs on This Forum

My general philosophy is it's best not to make rules until a problem actually arises. Writing rules is really hard, because for almost any rule, there will be exceptions. For example, a tempting rule might be that only legitimate music can be posted. Yet we allow polka here! (I kid, I kid!)...

I sing Silent Night for a holiday music challenge

You got a laugh out of me with that one.

A holiday tune and cautionary songwriting tale

That is too funny about the VCR line. Probably a lot of rappers out there in a similar predicament with "I'm chillin' with Diddy" lyrics. I love the song, and I'm so jealous I don't have a singer living with me.

My New Music Video (Solo Piano)

Agreed! This is a beautiful piece. Also agreed. I wouldn't sacrifice the instrumental, mind you, because I love it as is. But the pop songwriter in me could totally hear a vocal on this. To that end, in my early songwriting days, I had a songwriting partner, and the way we worked was I'd...

The magic of the first mix

That's really interesting. I can't say that ever happens with me, because I've always gravitated towards "slick," meaning I always like a highly polished mix. But ... looking back, I'm not sure that's been a good thing, and I can think of a few songs I've done that would have been better if...

I sing Silent Night for a holiday music challenge

Really nice! I have a Rode NT1, too, although I think it's Gen 1. (I bought it a loooong time ago.) It's a great mic IMO, and although I tend to usually use either a U87 or an M149 for vocals, I'm not so sure those are actually any better. (Honestly, the main reason I bring out the more...

New Cover of LeAnn Rimes Hit

Wow, this sounds great! I shouldn't be surprised, of course, but you've really mastered the "make samples sound real" process, because I would have totally believed this was a real band ... and a really good band at that. (Love the drum fills, by the way. I suspect we're a bit alike, where...

Hello, everyone! Still finding my feet, here! :)

Welcome to the forum! You correctly deduced that this is a forum for songwriters and producers. ;) I was going to make a suggestion that maybe you wouldn't want to name a song Ave Maria, but I went to your band page to see if you're confusing "wrote" and "covered," and sure enough, it's an...

    FUNK IT UP

I think "Sack of Soggy Lentils" would be a great name for a kick in a drums library. ;) Now that you mention it, I do like that kick sound a lot. Where does it come from?

    Can't upload MP3s !?!

It's all André. Going all the way back to when I bought VI-Control, we'd be in deep doodoo without him.

    Can't upload MP3s !?!

Why would anyone want to post mp3s here??? ;) Let me ask André.
