(Sidestream) K-pop. I'm trying to get comfortable making music again while discovering what I like doing in the first place. So I figured, why not start deconstructing my favorite songs from a genre that refuses to stick to a single style?

Really into Pixy and (queen) Sunmi at the moment.

Wandered into the living room while my wife was watching The Accountant the other night, and heard this song playing near the end of the movie. Immediately captured my attention.

Great prog rock band from Detroit. Quite original. 1st rate really creative song writing and arrangements, plus good musicians/tight band. Prog rock but more epic story telling kind of songs versus musicianship on display for its own sake.

A couple of weeks ago, I saw Paint Your Wagon (1969) for the very first time. Generally, I thought the movie hasn't aged very well and was overlong, but I thoroughly enjoyed the music.

With the exception of a couple of numbers, the songs are absolutely great, and I love that Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood sing in their own imperfect voices. It gives the movie a more grounded feel that appropriately matches the rugged environment.

One song that's been stuck in my head is Wand'rin' Star. The all-male choir, Marvin's ultra-low-key nearly-whispered delivery at the very bottom of his range, the muddy street, the rainy weather at dusk, and overall casual pace all contribute to an especially haunting and melancholy number.
