I couldn't think of an August song of the top of my head, so I searched my vast mp3 collection and only one song turned up: "August And September" by The The. I've always liked this song ever since I first heard it back in the 80s, but wasn't aware the song contained "August" in it's title. So nowI know, and it's my August entry.

I know Taylor Swift has a song called "august" on her Folklore album, but while I really like that album, that's not one of my favorite songs from it.

I hope you'll forgive me if my August song is quite far-fetched. Actually it doesn't have "August" in its title and...it's in FRENCH!

But please bear with me, because this is a fun story:

In 1976, France's national rock star Johnny Hallyday (yes) released this song called "Les Chiens De Paille", which means Straw Dogs. The song was inspired by the Sam Peckinpah movie.
Well, this particular song instantly became an endless source of sarcasm, just because of its very first line:

"Elle était seule dans la maison, c'était fin août, début juillet"

"She was alone in the house, it was late August, early July."

The ominous tone in which he sings this seems to indicate he somehow never noticed that the month of July usually comes BEFORE the month of August.

Ok, this was probably poetic license from the songwriters...but you need to know that our Johnny was renown for his propension to speak absolute nonsense whenever he was interviewed. He was the king of WTF and a precursor to JC Van Damme in this sense.

(An exemple: In 1998 he had to cancel a long awaited stadium show because of a torrential rainstorm. The show was very high-tech, and playing the gig in these conditions was deemed a safety hazard. So the next day Johnny appeared on the national tv news (!!!) and apologized to his inconsolable fans, saying: "We are very sorry but you know, there's nothing you can do against technology.")

France loved him as a performer nonetheless, yet no occasion to make fun of him was missed. And this late August, early July song was no exception.

That is a GREAT story!

Sadly, I never heard of Johnny Hallyday. According to Wikipedia, he released 79 albums 🤯 Wow! Amazing to think someone so influential is virtually unknown in the US.

It's specifically that album - Sound of My Heart - that really resonated with me and my friends at that time. Don't know if coming to it now for the first time will have the same impact, but hopefully, there's some stuff in there you'll enjoy.
