Hello. I’m new here. I have been a so-called musician since I was 7 years old. Mom started me on the accordion when they were cool. Do you remember Dick Contino? He was my hero. When my hands could span an octave, Mom transitioned me to piano. I think I did pretty well. I was competent if nothing else. I started playing guitar in high school, but switched to bass when I found I could get more gigs in a band. I played in dozens of bands for decades. In 2004 our two sons were killed in a car crash. I would call it an accident, but that would imply that it couldn’t have been avoided. I went dark for 16 years, and didn’t do anything with music. A few years ago, my wife told me about people who were were making music with these iPad things. I bought one and here I am. Ta da! One night my wife was having a Zoom chart with our 7 year old niece. I left to play with my iPad. She asked… where is Uncle Paulie going? She told her that I was going off into my own little world. She asked… Paulieworld?

I hope there are a few here that like what I do. I dig all types of music. I love polka, bossa nova, Duke Ellington, ambient, heavy metal, orchestral, whatever. If it’s sincerely done with heart, I dig it. I am just an old gray hippie from days gone by. Peace my brothers and sisters.

I just finished listening to some ( boy there's a lot) of your Soundcloud stuff. Very cool what you're doing. I also really like all the song titles and pics to go along with them. Did you play keyboards at all on some of the stuff from 2 years ago? It sure sounds like it. If not, how did you put this all together?

Hi Tim,

Thanks for listening, and for scrolling so far down. Much appreciated. I don't often get the chance to share older stuff with another kindred spirit. Almost everything I have on SoundCloud was done without external equipment. I am very pleased that it sounds almost lifelike. I use a DAW called Cubasis. I am just comfortable with the way it works. I dug up a few more things from 30+ years ago when I actually played.

This is another track I did with Tony. He really surprised me on this one. I recall him saying... how about if I try something a little jazzy. I remember I kept the first take, and it's a good thing because he just started shredding after that. I used a Korg O1W for all the sounds. I played a few different things and recorded the MIDI for a few of them. Then I tried them out on a few different sounds and settled on piano, vibes, trumpet, etc.

This one is nothing but me and my O1W. 8 tracks of MIDI that I built up in multiple passes, then recorded in one take. I used a MIDI sequencer called Texture, a DOS application. Everything was Ctrl-this, Alt-that, etc. After a while it just became second nature.

Meet Tony! I found this a while ago. Reminds me of the time we went into Guitar Center looking like a couple bums. Tony pretended like he was a complete newbie... Smoke on the Water and stuff like that. Just as we thought we were about to get kicked out, he started going off like this. Really generated a big crowd. That was way before everybody had phones with video. This was probably done fairly recently, within the last 10 years. Looks like he is still up to his old tricks. At least he's probably still alive.

I just made an appointment with SSA to start receiving benefits! I can't believe it. I'll probably continue to work for a while, though.

Have a great day! Best wishes.

He sure can play the fiddly bits!!! That 01W is SO 80's. I used 2 M3R rack modules with the sound card library. I could get most anything I wanted out of them.
