Hello everyone!

I am Tom from Düsseldorf, Germany.

Many, many thanks @Mike Greene for creating this forum. I am very excited to watch it grow!

As a One-Man-Band I produce Alternative/Gothic/Symphonic Metal & Rock and publish it via my own music label. I sing, play guitar and bass and use samples for everything else, especially orchestral elements. I just released my first EP Mensch und Endlichkeit (Man and Finity) with four songs in German language. My next songs will be in English and I‘m currently working on my first album. If you are interested, you can check out my music under the name Tom Spell on all major streaming platforms or here:

When it comes to composition I am self-taught and do everything by ear/feeling. So no musical education whatsoever except some guitar and singing lessons. I also record and mix the music myself (also self-taught) which can be quite a challenge with lots of overlapping frequencies in a symphonic metal mix. In addition to that I spend a lot of time learning the concepts of music marketing, especially social media marketing.

I am looking forward to meet new people here, exchange ideas and get inspired by their musical journeys.

Cheers,
Tom

Welcome! Besides sharing the same first name, we're a lot alike. I play a few instruments but use samples for everything else. And except for a few basic lessons, I'm also entirely self-taught.

I was a pioneering user of the internet, becoming one of the first polka bands to have a website back in the mid 1990s, but I never embraced social media mainly due to privacy concerns over data collection. Someday if I ever get a boost in income, I'll hire someone to put me on social media and handle all the marketing.

Hi Tom,

thank you very much! :-)

I love this way of producing music because of the freedom and independence. The samples and plugins sound so good today, I just don‘t feel the need to produce outside the box.

Yeah, social media marketing is a very difficult topic that is quite complicated and the rules are always changing. But even if it is outsourced later, I think it can’t hurt to know at least the basics and have some experience so you know whats going on.

Also, great that you pioneered with your website! Feel free to DM me a link to your music or post it here. Would very much like to hear some of your productions.
