Diane Warren - 16th Oscar loss

I'm pretty sure Hugh Laurie was nominated for a primetime Emmy every single year "House" was on, and I don't think he won a single time! Those award shows can be baffling.

A song I worked on was nominated for an Oscar this year too, "Like A Bird" by Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada (from the film "Sing Sing") and I was expecting we'd lose to Elton... but Elton lost too! 😇

She writes great songs too! I really don't get the award shows most of the time. But then, most of the movies that win are not movies I would ever watch.

I have a ton of respect for Dianne Warren, although I'd struggle to name any songs she's written, since she tends to write with (or for) artists I don't really care about. (The teenage boy in me, who would never admit to listening to "that wimpy stuff," is still strong.)

I'm reminded of the "How Do You Generate Ideas" thread, because Dianne is supposedly quoted as once saying she'd sometimes get lyric ideas from greeting cards. I'm not sure if that's true, but even if it isn't, I think it's a good idea.

I still can't believe she didn't win for I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, back in the day. Like it or not, few songs became so ubiquitous in worldwide popular culture.

I also like Painted on My Heart, that she wrote for Gone in 60 Seconds, but she wasn't even nominated for that one.

And debuted at #1 and stayed there for a month. Go figure. At least she got inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame as per Wikipedia.

Aerosmith did one of her songs. They aren't wimpy. LOL!

I Don't Want to Miss a Thing - I believe it was in the movie Pearl Harbor?

Yeah, but ... much as I loved Aerosmith, they jumped the "Legit Rock Band" shark long before then, and that song was an exclamation point on their fall from grace.
Poor Fonzie, after being so cool in ALL those episodes, that farewell event is what we remember. And it's still bizarre. 🤣

LOL! Yeah, Aerosmith definitely jumped the shark with that one. Well written song, but even the Fonz was saying "Really?"
