Request for a New Forum: Virtual Vocalists

I use Synthesizer V for every song I write. It is as essential to my songwriting process as a pen and paper, laptop, guitar, keyboard, and DAW.

My Synth V vocals are intended as guide tracks for me and for any vocalists I hire. But nobody has to do that.

If you want to read discussions about Virtual Vocalists, you have to go to VI:Control or other forums. But these are all wide-ranging discussions. If you're writing a song for a movie or TV soundtrack, that's VI:Control territory, but if you're writing a song with Synth V to just write a song, I would argue it's more Songwriter and Producer territory.

Of course there are many reasons to use Synth V that don't involve songwriting at all. Maybe most people don't, and VI:Control will satisfy all their needs. Here we are only interested in how we use Synth V for songwriting.

Therefore, I propose that my suggested forum not be listed under "Production" but under "Songwriting" That will make it clear why our Synth V discussions are unique.

I just posted three times on VI:Control about Synth V today. One new post and reactions to people's questions. (That's not typical, I usually do once every few months.) But if there was a much-used forum here, I would post a lot of stuff here instead. Having interesting information here would make Songwriter and Producer more of a destination. Having this be a place to get questions answered on this topic, would also make S&P more of a destination. Because Virtual Vocalists are among the most dramatic advances to virtual instruments in recent years.

There's a lot of places where news of this new subforum could be spread to, including VI:Control, the Synth V forum, and the Synthesizer V User Group on Facebook. But first, @Mike Greene you'd have to agree, and we'd have to fill it with a lot of solid content first.

Thoughts?

I think the only reason VI-Control birthed such a prominent forum for virtual vocalists is that this S&P website didn't yet exist. All of the virtual vocal discussions and pop/rock tracks being posted on VI-Control are welcome there, but in my opinion, they'd be a better fit here.

It would be great if that whole category on VI-Control could be moved here, but since that would be impossible, it would still benefit S&P to have its own Vocal Synthesis subforum. I could see it under Songwriting, but for me personally, I'd prefer to see it under Tools since it is a tool used for both songwriting and music production.

I think using synthetic vocalists makes sense to discuss here, but I suspect that it would be hard to migrate people from VI.

I also think that being a place for discussing synthetic vocalists and upcoming technology - and not in an "oh, no - we're all going to be replaced" would be helpful in making this a useful forum.

I had asked about VI singers here and was referred to a thread on VI-C. But I think it's just as appropriate on this forum.

I bought Synth V Pro 2 and a couple of voice packs to use for temp (or not?) tracks for my songwriting. I see there a few new voice packs out and others got some improvements with a recent update.

I think this makes sense. The sub-forum on VI-C doesn’t appear in Latest Posts, because I feared it could become too much of a distraction on a forum that’s focused so much on orchestral. It makes much more sense here.

I’m out of town for the rest of the week, so give me a while to set it up.

Oops, I'm a couple weeks late, but I've now made the sub-forum, and I've moved this thread there, so the section won't start off lonely.

Let me know if the name should be tweaked - for instance, I currently list SynthV and Ace Studio in parentheses, since I think those are the main contenders, but if there's another one I should add, let me know.
